If the word literature refers to one of the creative arts, then language is essential in literature because literature is the art of language, just as music is the art of sound and dance is the art of motion.As you read, you'll encounter various ideas, disagreements, methods, and perspectives which can be hard to organize in a meaningful way.You will need to synthesise several of your reviewed readings into each paragraph, so that there is a clear connection between the various sources.You will need to critically analyse each source for how they contribute to the themes you are researching.At undergraduate level literature reviews can be a separate stand alone assessment.The literature review is generally in the format of a standard essay made up of three components: an introduction, a body and a conclusion.You show your understanding by analysing and then synthesising the information to: Work out what you need to address in the literature review.
It does NOT reference and list all of the material you have cited in your paper.
Rather, you can take the pieces that other researchers have “cut” and put them together to build a framework on which to hang your own “books”—that is, your own study methods, results, and conclusions.
The contents of a literature review are determined by many factors, including its precise purpose in the document, the degree of consensus with a given theory or tension between competing theories, the length of the article, the amount of previous studies existing in the given field, etc.
