Did you know that there is a Rizal in each one of us?
Or to put it another way, that there is an element of us in Rizal.
Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, known as Jose Rizal, the greatest hero of the Philippines was indeed the pride of Malayan race. He was richly dowered by God with superb intellectual, moral, and physical qualities. He became a traveler, and each country he visited, there were always important events that occurred.Rizal wrote two novels, the “Noli Me Tangere” and the second part of it, the “El Filibusterismo”. Rizal, a brave and a man of his word, was never afraid whatever the consequences he may suffer because of his writings that are against the friars and also to Spaniards. He consecrated his God-given talent, and even sacrificed his own life, for the redemption and welfare of his people. He gave importance to education, our freedom, promoting peace and equality, being proud of our filipino heritage, and many more.Although, while I was growing up, he was never one of my idols, or someone i really looked up to.Our so called “Filipino Artists” promote the style and genre made in the western culture.Even the clothes we wear are not of our own culture.I knew he was many things, and contributed a lot of things to the Today, I do not know a lot of people who can speak straight Filipino without using a single word in the english language.Because of all these influences, even my idols were from the western culture.I never really felt Rizal’s importance and presence in our culture. In fact, if not for this paper, the importance of Jose Rizal would have never crossed my mind. Jose Rizal was nothing more than another lesson to learn about in History to me.
